Modern Lit includes reading a variety of genre (novels, poetry, plays, and short stories) and writing formal paragraphs, essays, critiques, analysis, and research projects). We also study vocabulary, writing styles, grammar, and participate in presentations, individual and group projects, and class discussions. Reading is a fundamental skill used in every occupation in order to be successful. This course offers strategies in reading for success and comprehension while reading many classic and contemporary genres.

Evaluation is based on the following:
- Daily Attendance
- Activities/Assignments
- Reader’s Notebook
- Class Projects
Class Grading:
- Assessments and grading standards are applied consistently to students of similarly demonstrated ability.
- Assessments are based solely on demonstrated student progress and on achievement of reasonable and clear standards.
- Our team encourages students to persist in their assignments so that adequate progress and good grades can be achieved.
You will need to be prepared every day. You will show this by these important items:
- Daily Attendance
- Pen (No light colored ink) and Pencil
- Composition Book (Reader’s Notebook)
- Notebook Paper (No rough left margins)
- Prentice Hall Literature Text (provided)
